KAMI PEKERTI@UPM 2025: SELF-AWARENESS, SEXUALITY AND HIV
The KAMI PEKERTI@UPM 2025 Programme, themed “Self-Awareness, Sexuality and HIVâ€, was successfully held on Saturday at Hotel Tenera, Bangi, from as early as 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The programme was attended by 80 students from various academic backgrounds and institutions, reflecting a high level of awareness and commitment among university students towards issues related to personal health, sexuality, and HIV prevention. The diversity of participants also contributed to an interactive and inclusive atmosphere throughout the programme.
The organisation of this programme represents an important initiative in strengthening health and sexual education among youth, particularly university students. Through an informative, ethical, and value-based approach, the programme aimed to provide accurate exposure and build a comprehensive understanding of reproductive health, risk behaviours, and the importance of making informed decisions in daily life.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in various activities including talks, sharing sessions, and interactive exercises that emphasised self-awareness, risk management, and healthy lifestyle practices. These sessions not only enhanced participants’ knowledge but also provided a platform for them to ask questions, share perspectives, and deepen their understanding of sensitive issues that are often considered taboo in society.
The programme also served as a strategic platform in supporting public health advocacy efforts, particularly in raising awareness about HIV and the importance of comprehensive sexual education. Such efforts are crucial in nurturing a generation of students who are not only academically excellent but also highly aware of personal and societal well-being.
The programme was successfully organised with strong collaboration from the UPM Student Affairs Division, UPM Health Centre, WAZAN UPM, and the Department of Higher Education, all of whom played significant roles in ensuring the smooth implementation and success of the programme.
In addition, the highest appreciation is extended to the main sponsors, the Malaysian AIDS Council and the National Population and Family Development Board, for their support, commitment, and trust in making this programme a success.
Overall, the KAMI PEKERTI@UPM 2025 Programme not only achieved its intended objectives but also made a significant impact in enhancing participants’ awareness and knowledge of health and sexual education issues. It is hoped that similar programmes will continue in the future as an ongoing effort to build a healthier, more knowledgeable, and responsible society.
