PUTRA NAHWAN BRINGS HONOR TO UPM, HIGHLIGHTS STUDENT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT THROUGH NASHEED ART
Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) nasheed group, Putra Nahwan, achieved a remarkable milestone after being crowned overall champion at the Malam Irama Nasyid Majlis Kebudayaan Universiti-Universiti Malaysia (MAKUM) 2026, further elevating the university’s name on the national stage.
The competition, held in Penang, brought together top nasheed groups from public universities nationwide. It was organized by Universiti Sains Malaysia under MAKUM with support from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). While Putra Nahwan emerged as champion, second place was secured by Insof from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), followed by Intracksee from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in third place.
Head of the Arts, Culture and Heritage Empowerment Section at UPM’s Student Affairs Division, Mr. Nik Mohamad Ridhwan, said the achievement represents more than just a competition victory. It reflects the university’s success in nurturing students with strong identity, leadership qualities, and a balance between academic excellence and co-curricular involvement.
He noted that nasheed art holds a unique position within the student development ecosystem, as it not only cultivates talent and teamwork discipline but also serves as a medium for value-based education, dakwah (Islamic outreach), and character building among students.
